I’ve started viewing delight as a discipline close to a decade ago and it is still transformative! I loved this post. 💛

Yes! I’ve experienced this transformation, too!

Thank you for reading, Lisa! I’m not quite a decade in myself, but yes, it is transformative. Having toddlers makes it pretty easy, too. They see so much of the world through eyes of delight.

This is such a helpful permission slip for those of us who are so prone to being dutiful and responsible. I loved remembering that children ran to Jesus! Mine would never run toward anything that didn’t hold the promise of fun!

Our children teach us so many things!

Yes, exactly!! And I'm with you—I am generally a dutiful girl myself, and every once in a while it just feels so good to be a teensy bit "irresponsible"—that is, to have some fun and remember that we don't have to control everything. Praise God for that!

Gosh, I loved this so much! Play, fun, and delight are such necessary spiritual disciplines, but so often overlooked! Thank you for the reminder to actually schedule it in. Have you read "Aggressively Happy" by Joy Clarkson? It blew my mind and I bet you would love it too!

Ooh, I love Joy, but I haven’t read that one. Thank you for the recommendation!

Great post.

When working in a village in Belize, I had difficulty reaching the young women. I found out they loved America's Next Top Model, so I would download the episodes onto my computer when I had internet access. I took my computer to a group of girls, and we would watch it together. After the show, we sat and chatted; more often than not, we talked about spiritual things. What a pleasant surprise.

I’m sure you didn’t learn that technique from Missions 101! How wonderful to see how God works through delight even before we believe.

No! Assuredly not, haha! But it worked and it was fun. My husband did the same thing with Basketball and fishing.
